Stanford students manage simulated electricity companies for fun and profit

Twenty student teams in our ECON 156/256 course ("Energy Markets and Policy") played the roles of electricity generators, retailers, and final customers in a complex energy market with retail competition and a renewable portfolio standard. Some made big returns for their shareholders. Others didn't (but had fun). And all learned how well-designed energy and environmental markets can play a crucial role in supporting the energy transition.
