Workshop: Day-Ahead Markets for a High-Renewables World at the LA CPUC

On April 16th and 17th, PESD's Mark Thurber visited the California Public Utilities Commission in Los Angeles to deliver the game-based workshop “Day-Ahead Markets for a High-Renewables World." The two-day workshop used the interactive Energy Market Game to highlight current changes in electricity markets with the increase of renewable energy.

In addition to the in-person workshop, CPUC staff completed PESD's suite of 6 e-learning modules on Electricity Market Principles, including the newly released Transmission Constraints module. The modules, which include 1) Fixed and Variable Costs, 2) Offer-Based Markets, 3) Pay-As-Bid vs. Uniform-Price Auctions, 4) Unilateral Market Power, 5) Forward Contract Incentives, and 6) Transmission Constraints, help create a common understanding of electricity market principles in advance of the in-person, game-based component of the training.
