PESD kicks off electricity market e-learning project with first mini-course

To complement its ongoing series of electricity market workshops for regulators, PESD has launched an initiative, with generous support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, to develop e-learning modules that regulators anywhere around the world can use to prepare for a high-renewables future.

The first module, on Fixed and Variable Costs, was successfully piloted at a workshop for Western US electricity regulators in Portland, Oregon in August. Two more modules, on Basics of Bid-Based Markets and Unilateral Market Power, are scheduled to be piloted in October as part of a workshop with energy regulators from the Asia Pacific region. The ultimate goal is a publicly accessible suite of 15-20 mini-courses that will progress from basic principles to sophisticated topics around integration of wind and solar into electricity markets.
