Mark Thurber at Stanford Impact Labs Policy Day
Associate Director Mark Thurber presented and moderated at the Stanford Policy Day on Environmental Resilience on November 7th. The conference brought together Stanford researchers and Bay Area city and county officials working on environmental issues.
Dr. Thurber highlighted PESD’s Impact Lab work in his presentation “Using E-Learning and Game-Based Tools to Develop a Shared Understanding of Effective Policy Mechanisms.” He described how PESD is developing and deploying interactive training tools (e-learning modules and the Energy Market Game) to help state and provincial regulators adapt market rules to high shares of wind and solar, with the idea that e-learning and game-based techniques might have applications in local policymaking as well.
In addition to presenting, Dr. Thurber moderated the breakout session on energy, leading five Stanford researchers in a discussion with conference attendees from government about different aspects of their work in the context of environmental resilience. One of the highlights was identifying possible future collaborations between Stanford labs and Bay Area city and county policymakers.
